Description
Great Blue Herons are large, slow moving, wading birds commonly found near shorelines, river banks and the edges of marshes, estuaries, and ponds across much of the U.S. They live in colonies or heronries in large stick nests built high in the trees. These majestic birds with their subtle blue-gray plumage often stand motionless or take slow deliberate steps as they scan for prey but strike with lightning speed to grab a fish, frog or other tasty morsels.
