Description
This little creature was fascinating to watch. Flycatchers are a perching bird that flies out from its perch to catch its prey, sometimes in mid air. Its diet consist mainly of insects including caterpillars, moths, butterflies, katydids, crickets and spiders. While I thought it was diving for food, it may have just been taking a bath! Flycatchers are adept fliers they sometimes take a bath by diving into the water and then returning to a perch to preen and shake. This photo was taken at the Brick Pond Park in North Augusta, South Carolina.
