Description
This is the Annex Building of Mast General Store in Valle Crucis, North Carolina. Henry Taylor, who arrived in Valle Crucis around 1851 established a small store known as Taylor and Moore Company prior to the Civil War. The store was across the street from the present day main building of Mast General Store along with Taylor's home. As the community grew he needed to have a larger store and in the early 1880s he built the first room of the Taylor General Store. In 1897, William Wellington Mast, purchased half interest in the store from the Taylor family and in 1913, became the sole owner. According to the history posted on the store's website the store had everything from “Cradles to Caskets.” The original store also provided a Post Office, a doctor's office, a potato grading room and a feed room.
