Artist's Description
The Josie N III sits at the waterfront dock in Port Royal, South Carolina at the end of 11 Street. I have visited and photographed the shrimp boats there many times and now know a little more about their history from an article in the Bluffton Sun about a book written by a local fisherman and shrimper. “Where Have All of the Shrimps Boats Gone?” is a book written by Woody Collins from Beaufort, South Carolina and is the story of shrimping and its decline in Beaufort County told by Collins, who worked in the industry for six decades. I just love this quote from the article about the book and I certainly believe it to be true, "History is best written by those who lived it." The article intrigued me so much I plan on reading the book!
About John Kirkland
My journey with photography started out as a hobby and grew into a passion and maybe even an obsession.
